The HUC

The Hybrid Ultracapacitor (HUC) was developed at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, MIST. It was then enhanced, patented and commercialized by Mesha Inc. When combined with a lead acid or Li-Ion battery, the HUC can meet the needs of both power and energy density applications by providing quick charging, longer life (over 100,000 charge/discharge cycles), and a high current from a small device.


The EMS

The Energy Management System (EMS) was developed by Mesha Inc. to manage energy storage in the hybrid system with the intelligence of charging and discharging the HUC and battery for different voltage levels, delivering power loads on demand. This minimizes the negative effects on the battery due to solar variations by managing load surges and providing a smooth charging current, which extends the battery life regardless of daytime or nighttime usage.

For example, in a typical 3KW microgrid system, the number of battery replacements over a 10-year period in battery alone storage systems can be as high as 5 replacements. With the MIST based solution, it can be brought down to 1 replacement. This results in savings of up to 48% for battery replacement cost.

The EMS software also supports various subsystems like Charging Algorithm (P&O technique), temperature compensation, discharging algorithm. Equipped with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) provides various protections like short circuits, high temperature, over input voltage, over load, output low voltage and other protections as per the IS/IEC standards.
